This is a song writing contest in Mandaya (Dabaweño) dialect with Pilipino (Tagalog) interpretation. The Mandaya language-inspired lyrics shall be applied in the song’s first stanza and Tagalog language in the second stanza. The lyrics in chorus should be either in Tagalog or Mandaya/Dabaweño language. The real purpose -is to make the song compositions easily understood by the Filipinos in the country and elsewhere abroad.
This songwriting contest is extended to not only to all Mandaya tribal communities, might as well to other non-Mandaya songwriters within the Davao region. The participating entries shall be required to submit a demo tape or compact disc (CD) to the Screening Committee headed by the Municipal Economic Enterprise and Development Office-In-Charge. Only Top 12 Song Compositions shall be included in the Final Rounds and shall be considered Finalists. These song finalists shall automatically qualify for a musical arrangement and thereafter shall be ready for playing as music materials for a Minus One –Musical Form during the contest. The 12 Finalists shall be required to come a day before the competition and that same shall accompanied by his or her interpreter/performer during the rehearsals.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To promote and preserve the Mandaya language and its literature through songwriting;
2. To encourage talented songwriters/composers in all towns in Davao Oriental and other areas within the Davao region to join the competition;
3. To formally launch the Mandaya (Dabaweño) Song Festival on June 12, 2010;
4. To produce at least one album for an array of Mandaya (Dabaweño) songs coming from the 12 Finalists and chosen from among the final entries submitted; and
5. To distribute copies of song albums to the different tribes and Filipino communities within and outside Davao Oriental.
